Eco Fashion Weekend: ‘Fashion: Make It Eco’

Fri 19, Sat 20 & Sun 21 April 2024

Hosted at 1880, 1 Nanson Road

Join us for the inaugural Eco Fashion Weekend, a first-of-its-kind event, celebrating Singapore-based brands leading the way on sustainability, innovation, and alternative fashion consumption.

Developed by a collective of activists and eco-friendly local fashion brands, it addresses the urgent need for sustainability, through a panel discussion, fashion show, and a family-friendly workshop.

Singapore is embracing sustainability, via the Green Plan, which charts a path to a sustainable future by 2030.  Eco Fashion Weekend will raise awareness of the issues whilst highlighting local brands playing their part to make Singapore fashion more environmentally-friendly.

Supported by 1880, Afreum.com (a socially-conscious crypto ecosystem focused on financial inclusion in Africa and beyond), Fashion Revolution Singapore and a collective of local sustainable fashion brands, the event promises to inspire Singapore’s fashion industry, and eco-conscious consumers alike.

Using Circularity To Scale

Monday, 18 April 2022

Join the session and hear from industry experts how sustainable fashion brands have used circularity to scale.

According to The Ellen MacArthur Foundation, the Circular Economy is the only way to “transform our throwaway economy into one where waste is eliminated, resources are circulated, and nature is regenerated.”

We’ve put together an exciting panel of experts to discuss the idea that linear consumption is the only route to success. You’ll leave with some answers to the difficult question - can circularity lead to profit? Join the session and hear from industry experts how sustainable brands have used circularity to scale.

Register here and find out how the circular economy could improve your business.

Green Washing Vs Supply Chain Transparency

Tuesday, 19 April 2022

What's the difference between greenwashing and supply chain transparency? Sign up and leave the session as an informed consumer or brand.

As the world becomes more concerned about the environment, fashion supply chains face closer scrutiny, but there’s still a lack of transparency. Our panel of industry experts will give you easy to digest insights into the complex topic. The session will clarify what’s really happening in nearby manufacturing hubs and ask difficult questions such as - is greenwashing inevitable?  Given the nature of the fashion industry is a transparent supply chain even possible?

The session unpacks some of these questions from the perspectives of educators, experts and brands involved in the industry, to give you an insight to the difference between real transparency and greenwashing.

Sign up here and leave the session as an informed consumer or brand.

Who Owns Culture?

Wednesday, 20 April 2022

Join the session and hear the different viewpoints from experts in fashion, art and cultural studies as we discuss cultural appropriation.

Fashion is an expression of culture, not just the clothes that we wear. So who owns that culture and who are its agents? The fashion industry is famed for trawling archives and culture to create collections we all aspire to. But at what cost? Should designers and creative directors from powerful brands be given free rein to use decorative art often belonging to people from the poorest nations? Or should they pay up when using cultural motifs for profit?

Join the session and hear the different viewpoints from experts in fashion, art and cultural studies as we discuss cultural appropriation and the renewed global call for cultural decolonization. Amongst the questions raised, we’ll ask if fashion entrepreneurs have an urgent and important role to preserve and promote South East Asian intangible cultural heritage?

This thought provoking session shouldn’t be missed. Register here.

About

The current fashion system is broken. From CO2 emissions and overuse of chemicals, to murky labour practices, the industry needs to make urgent changes. But this cannot be achieved by one person or brand. We need to work together to make that change. Responsibility lies with everyone: governments, NGOs, educators, industry experts, brands and consumers. We must all seek to get informed and take the steps required to ensure we reduce fashion’s impact on the planet.

So how do we go about fixing fashion? Solutions are created by experts from different fields coming together - so we’ve put together an amazing mix of knowledgeable individuals, each with their own perspectives. From sustainable brands, business of fashion experts to academics  - each session will shed light on the most important topics.

Why am I supporting these events? As a Fashion Marketing and Management lecturer, I have a commitment to do my bit to drive systemic change. That’s why I was happy to help organize the panel discussions by tapping into my network of experts.

Register now and leave each session more informed. These events are supported by Fashion Revolution Singapore.
