Objective

My objective was to create an event to promote local Singapore fashion brands using art. Working with a group of student volunteers we created the concept, designed all the event collaterals, carried out the marketing communications and managed the event including an exhibition and live performances which took place across two days in November 2019.

Discovering Art, Fashion & Performance

Artisan was a unique opportunity to pair fashion with art in order to support local fashion brands and creatives. The two day event was held at the Tencel™ Studio, Level 2 Cocoon Space at Design Orchard, Singapore. Visitors experienced ‘fashion as art’ and got a chance to meet designers and see local brands as they had never seen them before.

Unique Collaborative Performances

Performances included a collaboration between sustainable brand Matter Prints and award-winning Indian contemporary dance company Chowk Productions. The collaboration with Matter Prints saw the dancers slowing down a traditional form of dance to force the audience to pay attention to the dancers every move. The piece showcased the dancers skill and perfectly brought to life Matter Print’s message to slow down our consumption.

Elizabeth Grace Couture creates breathtaking changeable wedding gowns, which a bride can wear after her big day. Jazz singer Andayoma brought the brand to life in her performance of three original jazz inspired Afro-Caribbean songs. Each song reflected the wedding ritual and love in all its stages. The magical finale included the event space lit with only candles, as Andayoma in a couture piece from Elizabeth Grace, was lit up with LED lights from within the dress.

OliveAnkara, specializing in modern ankara fabric (African wax print), worked with British-born actor Sharon Frese who performed a one woman monologue about identity and displacement.

Each brand story was animated through dance, performance and fine art and Ashepa Lifestyle, a luxury jewellery brand celebrating African artisans, collaborated with painter & art teacher Danielle Solk. Danielle generously created a triptych using mixed media portraits honoring the crafts people behind the jewellery.

Binary Style displayed wearable art by hanging their contemporary graphic luxury scarves as art, whilst Shirt Number White, a concept brand focused on the shirt, collaborated with photographer Rowan Chanen. The collection inspired by Shakespeare’s Ophelia, was shot in black and white and made arresting images, contrasting the brand’s signature white shirt , with the majestic trees found in Singapore referencing the scene which inspired the shirt.

Curated Designer Market

A curated Market showcased local brands Gin Lee, The Ranee of Swarak, Teal By Vrinda, Kanyeka, Style Nomads and March Baby Collective.

The project was a demonstration of how multi-generational teams can work together. The entire event was organized by 5 volunteer Fashion Marketing students.

In 4 months we developed the event concept and creative collaborations - contacting brands and artists, securing the permission to use their work. The Artisan Singapore brand concept was developed into brand visuals, poster, website, social media campaign and exhibition design. A great achievement giving students a chance to gain experience in event management and creating an event concept from scratch.
